Mary Ann³ Small (John², George¹) was born in KY on August 19, 1840.⁽⁷⁹⁵⁾ Mary died on January 17, 1905 in Jefferson Township, Tipton County, IN, at age 64.⁽⁷⁹⁶⁾ Her body was interred in the East Union Cemetery Section 1, Row 3, Lot 21 after January 17, 1905 in East Union, Hamilton Co, IN.⁽⁷⁹⁷⁾ The gravestone reads: "Mary A. Hershman, d. Jan. 17, 1905, aged 64y4m28d"

She married twice. She married John J. Small on December 3, 1857 in Tipton County, IN.⁽⁷⁹⁸⁾ The following individual is also linked to this event: Jonathan Endicott (judge). John was born on January 20, 1841 in Tipton County, IN.⁽⁷⁹⁹⁾ There is as much as a three year descrepancy in his birth year. If the birth year calculated from the death date of February 1, 1862 and age at death of 21y, 12d, then his mother Susanna (Ogle) Small would be deceased at his birth.

Rechecking this reference says his birthyear should be 1841. This can not be if his mother was Ogle. I am going to change to 1840 with a footnote as to the potential descrepancy. If he was born in 1841 his mother would have been Mary Ann Coats. We need to tie down the death date and back out the birth date for Sarah E. (Small) Fox who died in 1920 at age 79y1m8d. John was the son of Archibald Elsworth Small and Mary Ann Coats.

John died on February 1, 1862 in Lebanon, Marion County, KY, at age 21.⁽⁸⁰⁰⁾ His body was interred in the Archibald Small Cemetery Row 16, Lot 14 after February 1, 1862 in Ekin, Tipton Co, IN.⁽⁸⁰¹⁾ The gravestone reads: "John J. Small, Co. F, 67 Reg. Ind. Vol, died at Lebanon, Ky., Feb. 1, 1862, aged 21y, 12d."
